In Remembrance of William B. Kiser
In the fall of 1965, two young soldiers met at the Frankfurt-auf-Main airport, and boarded a plane, heading for Fort Sill, Oklahoma, to attend artillery OCS. I was an infantry sergeant, and Bill was a specialist we were that month’s contingent from Germany. We sat next to each other on the flight, but were assigned to separate sections (houses) of the class. Bill and I were both assigned as forward observers to the 9th Division which was being reactivated at Ft. Riley, Kansas. We ran into each other frequently during several months of training, especially at the “O” club. Bill was a friendly, easy-going, extrovert of a guy, and something of a ladies man (he had some striking girlfriends). He was popular and liked to talk about Phoenix, and when he worked for the railroad. It is my understanding that Bill was killed by a sniper while he was riding in the jeep of the captain who commanded the infantry company to which he was attached. (This is what I heard through the grapevine.) The third person in the jeep should have been the captain’s driver. I live about ten miles from the Wall, and I go down to pay my respects to Bill’s name at least twice a year, along with that of Frederic Chesebrough, who was also in Bill’s OCS class. It was good to see such a photo of Bill has been posted to the website it’s a good resemblance, better than his OCS class picture. Bill Kiser was a good man. For him to die so young, and so close to the end of his tour of duty, was a tragedy. May he rest in peace. He has not be forgotten. J. R. Chase - Falls Church, VA - 11-19-2010

Forty Years
Hey, Bill: Just had to let you know that today I thought of you for a lot of the day. Forty years ago you gave your life for your fellow man. Thank you. You will never know the amount of time I , and many others, spend thinking "What if?". What if Bill were here right now? Would he find this funny? Would he like this conversation. Would he think this girl was pretty? We miss you, Bill and treasure your memory, my friend. You will never die because you will always live in our memories.

One of my heroes
Hey Bill, Just to let you know, you are never forgotten. When we were in the Thunderbird Skydiving club in Phoenix and had lots of fun falling, you were someone who made each jump a pleasure. When your funeral was held in Scottsdale there wasn't a dry eye in the room.God hold you and keep you, my friend and we'll all see you up there soon. Blue skies!

Even though I was an E4 and he an officer, he always treated me as a friend. Curcumstances kept me from being with him when he was ambushed and I have always thought of him. He was a good man and spoke of his family and girl friend often.

Brooksie, you were my best friend. I was not with you that October day, if I was you would have got out or two of us would be on the wall. I never would have left you!
