To my Father
My dad Sgt. John W. Barbee, I feel great sorrow for my father John Barbee because he died in combat in a war whose purpose has been questioned for many years. He was a Marine, so when duty called he had to serve. My father wants to be remembered for the true life that he lived. His young daughter died of cancer in 1971, so I pray to God that they are together in Heaven ,happy together in peace. It is shameful that those who are ignorant of his life in Atlanta before he joined the Marines don't want to accept the truth!

I met your lovely wife yesterday.
Dear Sgt. Barbee, I had just gotten out of line when I hear a forcefully delivered, 'Semper Fi Marine!' in a lady's voice. (She had seen the decal on my car.) I returned her greeting and asked her connection. She pointed to her car's driver's door armrest. There was a small patch blue cloth, the Gold Star in the middle, and asked if I knew what that meant. When I replied, 'Gold Star. I'm so sorry. Who did you lose?', she told me. And we talked for at least a half hour before we went our separate ways. She still loves you as much as the day you asked for her phone number. 'Extension 210. Don't ask for me by name. Just 210.' (You know what that means. :-)) Rest easy, John. You are not forgotten.
