Good buddy, grew up toghether
57 Vilage Mill Haverstraw NY 10927 U.S.A.
Hey, Richie - the trees along the fence shade the site where you rest. Moss coats parts of your gravestone, now. A cover of green in the spring, the blanket fades during the bite of winter - unlike the memory of you which never fades. Not while those who call you friend, son, brother, comrade-in-arms, still love you. Not while those who love freedom, who understand your sacrifice, still draw breath. The KIA and PH engraved at the base of your gravestone speak much about you, the good Marine - a warrior and hero. So much more lives, as well, in my recollections - the great buddy with a wry sense of humor, quick to respond if he saw a friend in need. Quick to tease and laugh, even at himself, quick on the handball court. Were you ever defeated at Jamaica High School? One hell of a receiver, too. Remember when those older honchos, driving by, stopped to show us how touch football should be played? They had just won their bar league's title and spotted the bunch of us playing touch - six or eight, I can't recall - all of us good to excellent athletes in one sport or another. We had been playing together for years, knew each others moves - practically telepathic. The honchos didn't know what hit them. Your speed and cuts, low to the ground, baffled them. I tossed that bomb while you still faked left. I knew you'd be in the far right corner when the football arrived. I remember the shit eating grin on your face when the guys drove away in a huff, tossing the bird at us through a cloud of exhaust fumes. Remember the tennis racket and Lee Patrizio, six- two and you, what, five-eight? He shot out of the 'basement' like the hounds of hell were all over him. Actually, it was only one hound. I remember the tears of laughter, he and you, all of us shared later, every time anyone even murmured the words, 'tennis racket.' Rest in peace, amigo. Keep guarding Heaven's streets. Not too much time to go before the rest of us start showing up. I'll bring the football.

You were just, a young kid and yet, you were called to fight, like a man. I too, lost a brother, in the Nam conflict. I know what your family, went through and what they carry in their hearts today, still missing you. Thank you sir, for your sacrifice for our freedoms, way of life and the future, of our republic. You are, forever a hero. God comfort and bless your family, for the sacrifice they endure, as they go on without you. I promise you, that I treat my liberties and freedom, with gratitude and respect. I look for ways to add, to your giving and make this a better nation. I'am thankful to God, for men like you who surrendered their futures, for our nations. You are, our finest and most, treasured resource. You are, the glory of America. Rest in Him.
